Who this applies to
This policy covers visitors to garagebyte.co.uk and garages who use GarageByte. For garage customers, the garage is the data controller. GarageByte is the data processor. See our Data Processing Addendum.
What we collect
From website visitors and demo enquiries: the details you submit (name, garage name, email, phone, message) and basic technical data needed to run the site securely. From garages using GarageByte: account details, billing details (your email address and the status of your plan), and the business data you enter to run your garage. We do not see or keep your full card number. Our payment provider, Stripe, takes it.
How we use it
To respond to enquiries, provide and support the service, take payment, keep it secure, and meet our legal obligations. We do not sell your data, and we don't serve advertising.
Who processes data for us
These providers process data on our behalf, under contract. We only share data where it is needed to run the service or where the law requires it.
- Hetzner Online GmbH hosts the service and holds our backups. Everything we store is on their servers.
- Stripe takes card payments for your plan and for credit top-ups. It receives the account owner's email address, a garage reference number and the card details you enter on its page.
- Twilio sends text messages and receives the replies. It receives the mobile number and the message text of each text and of each reply.
- ClickSend (part of Sinch) sends text messages. It receives the mobile number, the message text and the sender name of each text.
- Vehicle Data Global supplies vehicle data. It receives the vehicle registration number, and nothing about the owner.
- Migadu delivers our email. It receives the address and the content of each email we send.
- Cloudflare protects the website, runs the anti-spam check on our forms, and carries vehicle registration checks to the DVLA, which receives the registration number.
- Google Cloud checks the free text on public booking, callback, contact and car enquiry forms for abusive content. It receives the text of the message.
- Ideal Postcodes finds an address from a postcode. It receives the postcode.
- Hive checks the photos that garage staff upload (health check, service sheet and blog photos) for abusive content, for garages that have this check turned on. It receives the photo.
Our website and account pages also load a font from Google Fonts, so Google receives the IP address of each visitor.
Where it's stored
Your data is stored on servers in Helsinki, Finland, in the European Union. Each garage's operational data sits in its own isolated database. We take nightly backups. Backups are held for up to two years and then deleted. Some providers above are based outside the UK and the EU. Where they are, we rely on the safeguards that UK and EU data-protection law recognises.
How long we keep it
Enquiry data is kept while we follow it up and for a reasonable period after. Garage account data is kept while the account is active or suspended. After a plan ends, we delete it after 60 days, or sooner if you ask. Billing records are kept for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and you can object to certain processing. Contact [email protected]. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Cookies
This marketing site uses only what's needed to function and to protect forms from spam. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies here.
